| Discussion Forum | DISCUSSION FORUM : Decision Making | 8/13/2021 | The Discussion Forum at Narmada College of Management met on 13th August, 2021. The session was about Decision Making. Decision making is often a difficult task for many of us. We all make decisions all the time, ranging from routine issues like what to wear, what to eat for lunch, up to the most critical decisions of life like where and what to study, where to work and whom to marry. In simple words, decision making means to choose between two or more courses of action. In the context of problem solving it involves a choice between possible solutions to a problem. Some people avoid making decisions by endlessly searching for more information or getting other people to offer their recommendations. Others resort to decision-making by taking a vote or tossing a coin. However decision making is a thoughtful process and decisions can be made through either an intuitive or reasoned process, or a combination of the two. Dr. Shah had three questions for all the participants to think upon. 1. What are the problems and issues in decision making? 2. In your life which is the best decision you have taken so far? Which decision you regret the most? 3. What are the important decisions managers are required to make in their respective domains? Each participant gave their respective response on the above questions. | 0 | ||||||||||||||

Forming a Vision: Dr. Vashi emphasized the importance of having a clear vision for the organization. The session, titled "Success Redefined," aimed to shift the audience's perspective from traditional, metric-heavy definitions of success toward a more holistic, sustainable, and mentally healthy approach to professional and personal achievement. Major points highlighted by the speaker in his session are : ________________________________________ 1. Beyond the Numbers: Holistic Success Mr. Pandya argued that success has been narrowly defined by wealth, status, and titles for too long. He proposed a "Balanced Scorecard" for life, which includes: • Mental Well-being: The ability to remain calm under pressure. • Quality of Relationships: Success is hollow if there is no one to share it with. • Physical Vitality: Health as the fundamental currency of high performance. • 2. The Role of Emotional Intelligence (EQ) A significant portion of the lecture focused on how high EQ often outweighs IQ in long-term career satisfaction. Mr. Pandya highlighted: • Self-Regulation: Managing triggers in a high-stress corporate environment. • Empathy: Building "human-centric" leadership models that foster loyalty and innovation. • Resilience: Redefining "failure" not as an end, but as a necessary data point for growth. 3. Inner Peace vs. Outer Achievement Addressing the rising rates of burnout, the speaker emphasized that true success is the "attainment of peace while pursuing excellence." He provided practical strategies for "Emotional Mastery," such as: • Practicing mindfulness to combat overthinking. • Setting healthy boundaries to protect personal time. • Focusing on process-oriented goals rather than just outcome-oriented ones. • The lecture concluded with an engaging Q&A session where attendees discussed the challenges of maintaining work-life balance in a competitive market. Mr. Apurva Pandya’s insights left the audience with a powerful realization: True success is measured not by how much we have, but by who we become in the process.
